The drum sounds were recorded at the famous United Recording studio in Hollywood using a mixture of old studio techniques and new school. They were then given Butch's unique processing of a custom set of analog and digital preamps, compressors, pedals and more at his home studio, GrungeIsDead.Butch Vig is both a musician, songwriter and producer. Best known as the drummer and co-producer of the alternative rock band Garbage and the producer of groundbreaking albums including Nirvana's Nevermind, Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown. He became famous for his innovative approach to creating modern drum sounds.

Green Day avait dÃjà impressionnà son monde avec 'American Idiot'. Ce groupe, dont on ne prÃdisait pas une si longue durÃe de vie il y a de cela une dizaine d'annÃes, Ãtait parvenu à sortir un vÃritable concept album, emballant à la fois critiques et public, pour solder 6 millions d'albums vendus. 'American Idiot' aurait pu être le point culminant de Billie Armstrong et ses boys. '21st Century Breakdown' semble prouver le contraire en montant la barre encore un peu plus haut. Encore dÃclinà sur le thÃme du concept album en trois parties, Green Day prouve toute sa vitalità à travers des titres hyper-pÃchues, un peu plus courts et aux thÃmatiques tournant le dos à l'Ãre George Bush. Arriver à mêler de la sorte conscience politique et Ãnergie rock est sans doute le meilleur gage de maturità pour ce "vieux" groupe de rock. La balance des titres et leur concision est extrême.
